EDUCATION
We firmly believe that education is the key to success and knowledge is power.
We recognise that many of our children have been failed by the education system and it has served to make some feel inferior.
We provide confidence boosting educational support in English, maths, science and technology. We promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), acknowledging the value that can be added by having a comprehensive grounding in these subjects.
Our programmes will be African centred. We recognise that a large part of our underachievement is inextricably linked to our collective failure to have African consciousness underpinning our educational curricula.
We will therefore seek to incorporate African history studies and African economic, political and social studies in our syllabuses. We aim to build a comprehensive library containing materials produced by us and for us and we welcome contributions of books, videos and articles etc. that are in keeping with this ethos.
Additional support will be provided to our children by experienced qualified teachers who understand the way our children learn best; and they will have the freedom to apply these learning methods, free of the constraints of the national curriculum.
We are only too aware that our children may suffer from low expectations for themselves due to a lack of racial pride. We aim to end this vicious cycle that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, by providing them with the African-centred historical education in order to redress the balance of our history that has been distorted or neglected entirely from the mainstream educational curriculum. This will provide our children with a full appreciation of what black people have achieved throughout our history and embed a sense of pride in who they are and their heritage.
This increased knowledge of self will also inspire them to succeed, despite the current challenges we face, in the context of global socio-economic factors impacting on the continent and Diaspora.
